Job Summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Foundation Pharmacist to join our surgical pharmacy team on a 12-month maternity leave cover contract. This is an excellent opportunity for a newly registered pharmacist to gain valuable experience and develop their clinical pharmacy skills in a dynamic and supportive team environment.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing pharmaceutical care to patients in various specialties, working as part of a multidisciplinary team to complete medicines reconciliation, treatment reviews, and discharge prescription validation. They will also be involved in dispensing medicines, clinical and accuracy checking of prescriptions, and supervising technicians and trainee pharmacists.

The postholder will be required to work in the dispensary, Technical Services section, and on rotation, will be responsible for carrying out duties such as clinical and accuracy checking of prescriptions, dispensing and supervision of others in dispensing injectable medicines, preparation and dispensing of special formulations, and liaising with medical and nursing staff.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have good written and verbal communication skills, basic keyboard skills, and familiarity with routine office software. They will also have a Master's Degree in pharmacy, membership of the General Pharmaceutical Council, and experience in pharmacy practice obtained through pre-registration training and examination.

The postholder must be able to work as an individual and within a team, possess personal organisational attributes, respond positively to service deadlines, and plan and manage their own workload. They must also display an understanding of and ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information, communicate complicated medication issues to patients and carers, and communicate and deal with all patients and/or carers with language, sensory or learning difficulties, or who may be dying or distressed.
