Position Overview

At AtkinsRéalis, our dedicated team of ecologists is engaged in a wide array of impactful projects across the UK, aimed at enhancing biodiversity and serving our clients and society.

We are currently seeking a passionate Senior Ecologist to bolster our Midlands operations. While we offer flexibility in location, we are particularly interested in candidates who can work from our newly established offices.

As a member of our team, you will play a crucial role in significant national infrastructure initiatives, contributing to projects recognized for their innovation and ecological benefits. Our ecology team has received accolades for its commitment to biodiversity and was honored as the CIEEM Large-Scale Consultancy of the Year in 2018, with continued commendations in subsequent years.

Key Responsibilities
  • Overseeing major infrastructure projects, including management of timelines and financial resources.
  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and engaging with stakeholders.
  • Planning and executing field surveys, as well as analyzing and interpreting data through methodologies such as biodiversity net gain.
  • Designing and implementing ecological mitigation strategies.
  • Drafting and reviewing various ecological reports and permit applications.
  • Handling project inquiries, preparing proposals, and fostering client relationships.
Candidate Profile
  • Preferred qualifications include:
  • Membership in the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or progress towards chartership.
  • A degree in ecology or a related discipline.
  • Proven expertise in ecology, whether as a specialist in specific species or as a generalist.
  • Strong business acumen.
  • FISC level 4 certification is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Natural England bat survey license level 2 is desirable but not essential.
  • A valid, clean driving license.

Compensation and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary, regularly benchmarked against industry standards, along with a default of 25 days of annual leave plus public holidays, with options to buy or sell leave. Compensation will be aligned with experience and qualifications.

Additional Information

This position may require security clearance, and employment offers will depend on obtaining the necessary level of clearance. If applicable, this will be discussed during the interview process. The vetting process is conducted by United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) and may require candidates to provide proof of residency in the UK for a minimum of five years.
