Job Description

About the Role

The Capital Accountant is a key member of our team, responsible for the development, implementation, and monitoring of all capital elements of the Capital Budget. This includes working with senior officers to produce the medium-term financial strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor all capital elements of the Capital Budget.
  • Maintain and develop the Trust's Fixed Asset Register (FAR), including setting up new projects/assets and ensuring records are complete, up-to-date, and accurate.
  • Provide accurate and timely information on all capital works, including projects and monitor costs against budget, cash-flow related matters against budgets, reforecasting, and long-term plan indicators.
  • Maintain and produce capital financial performance reports, including management and statutory accounts, regulatory returns, and annual budgets and reforecasts.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • AAT qualification and membership and/or finance/accountancy related University degree.
  • Evidence of continuing professional and personal development.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years general finance experience.
  • Experience of computerised accounting systems.
  • Knowledge of NHS capital accounting regime.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Good computer skills (specifically Microsoft Excel).
  • Knowledge of current accounting policies, including IFRS 16.
  • Knowledge of conducting audits and maintaining audit trails.
  • Able to work in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Ability to travel between Trust sites when necessary.
