Plant Quality Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Plant Quality Manager to join the Manufacturing department of a leading engineering development company at a time of rapid expansion.

Job Overview

The successful candidate will lead and drive the Quality function, developing the Quality capability and team to deliver the factory launch planning and project for Quality (APQP etc).

The role will assume responsibility for preparing and leading the function to deliver targets for production start and beyond.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage the quality assurance strategy to support the overall business strategy.
  • Plan the effective deployment of SQA, Quality Engineer, and Quality Technician resource to support the needs of the business.
  • Manage internal and third-party audit programmes and compliance to certification/standards.
  • Support the development of PFMEA, control plans, and work instructions.
  • Develop and collate KPI data for management review process.
  • Manage and drive resolution of customer and supplier quality concerns and improvement activities.
  • Ensure compliance and sign-off of internal manufacturing quality control, tests, and activities.
  • Develop and implement a robust quality management system to sustain ISO 9001/14001/ASpice etc certification.
  • Plan and develop a strategy for the business certification of further quality standards as required, such as AS 9100, TS 16949.
Candidate Qualifications & Requirements
  • Technical education to a minimum of HND level in either a mechanical or electrical discipline.
  • Proven track record as a Quality Manager in an automotive OEM, tier one supplier, or related business.
  • Strong practical problem-solving skills with the knowledge and experience to mentor others in the use of disciplined problem-solving tools such as 8D.
  • Must have practical hands-on manufacturing experience in related industry – likely to be automotive, but complemented by defence/aerospace sectors.
  • Knowledge and experience of implementing lean methods (5S, Six Sigma, Kaizen).
  • IRCA trained Lead auditor, and experienced in planning and leading both internal/external audits and supplier audit programmes.
  • Experienced in implementing APQP and PPAP.
  • Experienced in implementing structured problem-solving techniques (8D, Cause and Effect Analysis).
  • Strong working knowledge of statistical techniques (MSA, Acceptance Sampling, Process Capability, SPC, Gauge R & R, CMM).
  • Ability and experience of dealing with supplier and customer representatives at all levels.
  • Good prioritising, organisation, interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Experience of manufacturing and process engineering.
