As a Senior Mental Health Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in providing clinical leadership and expertise in old age mental health, supporting the delivery of comprehensive psychiatric services to older adults in the community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing expert psychiatric assessment and diagnosis for older adults with a wide range of mental health conditions, including dementia, depression, anxiety, and psychosis.
- Providing leadership and clinical supervision to multidisciplinary teams, including psychiatrists-in-training, psychiatric nurses, psychologists, social workers, and occupational therapists, to ensure high-quality and coordinated care delivery.
- Providing education and support to older adults and their families/caregivers on mental health conditions, treatment options, and strategies for managing symptoms and promoting well-being.
- Collaborating with external agencies, including primary care providers, care homes, and community mental health teams, to facilitate integrated care pathways and improve access to services.
- Participating in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, and research activities to enhance the quality and effectiveness of old age mental health care provision.
Requirements:
- Medical degree and completion of specialist training in old age psychiatry, with full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and inclusion on the Specialist Register for Psychiatry.
- Substantial post-qualification experience working as a Consultant Psychiatrist in old age mental health services, with demonstrable clinical expertise in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate multidisciplinary teams and engage effectively with older adults and their families.
- Commitment to delivering person-centered care and promoting recovery-oriented practices.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and best practices in old age mental health care.
