Job Overview

The Microbiology Division at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is collaborating with University Hospitals North Tees and Hartlepool to establish a unified service known as Tees Valley Pathology.

We invite applications from qualified, dedicated HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists who possess the necessary experience, knowledge, and skills to join our scientific team. The successful candidates will contribute to the services offered by Bacteriology and Virology as part of the Tees Valley Pathology Service.

Job Responsibilities

Candidates will rotate through various sections within the department, gaining a comprehensive range of experience. The role requires taking a proactive approach to meet daily workload targets, making effective communication and interpersonal skills essential.

Under the guidance of the Microbiology Management, the post holder will be responsible for performing routine operations within the Microbiology department, adhering to approved methodologies and procedures.

The role also involves assisting in the training and development of Trainee Biomedical Scientists, Medical Laboratory Assistants, and other staff members in accordance with departmental policies. A significant degree of autonomy is expected, allowing the post holder to work independently for extended periods.

Leadership and Development Training

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides leadership and improvement training for all new staff. This program is designed to enhance understanding of leadership and management skills. Participation in the leadership development program and the Quality Improvement Programme is expected. The objectives of this training include:

  • Enhancing leadership effectiveness and skills
  • Achieving practitioner level in quality improvement, equipping you to lead and implement quality initiatives within your role

Upon completion of this training, further leadership and improvement training opportunities will be available, including in-house courses and leadership apprenticeships at various levels.

  • IBMS accredited degree
  • Completed Registration Portfolio
  • HCPC registration
