Job Summary

The role of a Laboratory Assistant in the Blood Sciences department involves the accurate sorting, labelling, preparation, and storage of specimens both pre and post analysis.

Main Duties

As a Laboratory Assistant, you will assist Biomedical Scientists to provide a diagnostic service by assisting with sample preparation, providing support to ensure efficient workflow, maintaining laboratory equipment, and performing general housekeeping tasks.

About Us

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers leadership and improvement training to all new staff, including a one and a half day training programme on Leadership Impact and Service Improvement for Beginners.

Job Responsibilities

For this role, you will be expected to attend the aforementioned training sessions and have the opportunity to explore further leadership and improvement training opportunities.

Qualifications

Essential

  • 5 GCSEs, including one science subject, and laboratory experience
  • NVQ level 2 Clinical Laboratory Science or IBMS Cert Part 1, and an IT qualification

Experience

  • Scientific or laboratory experience
  • Experience of the internal environment in which the department operates

Desirable

  • Previous Healthcare Science Service experience

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of laboratory techniques
  • Basic understanding of Human Biology
