As a Band 6 Pharmacist, you will collaborate closely with our dispensary teams while maintaining substantial patient interaction. The successful candidate will deliver pharmaceutical services across a network of correctional facilities, receiving guidance and training from the Lead Pharmacist.

  • Delivering clinical pharmacy services to the assigned correctional facility and assisting the pharmacy technician during site visits.
  • Assuming the role of responsible pharmacist in the dispensary as scheduled.

Job Responsibilities

Management Duties

  • Overseeing the daily operations of the pharmacy technician during on-site visits.
  • Efficiently managing your time while conducting visits to correctional facilities.

Clinical Responsibilities

Conducting scheduled clinical visits to each facility within the assigned cluster, you will:

  • Perform medication reviews for offenders identified by healthcare staff as needing assistance.
  • Examine the medication history of newly admitted offenders to ensure accuracy and make necessary recommendations.
  • Provide scheduled consultations for offenders regarding their prescribed and over-the-counter medications.
  • Monitor prescribing patterns and advise healthcare staff to enhance prescribing practices.
  • Promote healthy lifestyle choices among offenders in accordance with local and national guidelines.
  • Participate in clinical governance and medicines management committees, providing insights with the support of the Specialist Prisons Pharmacist.
  • Collaborate with primary care providers to ensure the safe management of medications within secure environments.
  • Train nursing staff in the use of Patient Group Directions (PGDs) and monitor compliance.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and self-directed learning in pharmacy or related specialties.

Important Information

All candidates must be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting as part of the pre-employment process.

Applicants who are not UK passport holders must provide appropriate documentation and a Home Office Share code.

For those with less than five years of UK address history, a Police Certificate in English from previous residences will be required.

UK passport holders who have lived abroad for more than six months in the last three years must provide a certificate of good conduct or an overseas police check in English from the relevant countries.

For assistance in obtaining a Police Certificate, guidance can be sought from the relevant Embassy or High Commission.
