Safety and Compliance Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY

  • To deliver operational leadership in Health, Safety, and Wellbeing across the Built Environment Division.
  • To design and execute a comprehensive Health, Safety, Quality, Environmental, and Wellbeing (HSQEW) framework, taking charge of the formulation and oversight of effective health, safety, and wellbeing strategies, policies, processes, and procedures, while considering industry best practices and the operational requirements of the organization.
  • Ensuring adherence to all current Health, Safety, Quality, Environmental, and Wellbeing (HSQEW) regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with management teams to offer guidance, support, and innovative solutions tailored to their requirements.
  • Maintain effective relationships and communication with the HSQE department and operational teams.
  • Engage with internal auditors, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance.
  • Exhibit positive leadership and advocate for the adoption of best practices.
  • Identify opportunities for performance enhancement and address areas needing improvement.
  • Responsible for fostering, promoting, and monitoring the HSQEW culture within the organization.
  • Conduct regular inspections of assigned locations and provide timely written reports on findings.
  • Set a personal example by adhering to safety protocols and utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Oversee and review investigations into incidents and near-miss occurrences.
  • Ensure that notification and reporting procedures to relevant statutory authorities are executed properly.
  • Escalate instances of malpractice, recurring issues, and substandard working conditions.
  • Assist in the creation, review, and monitoring of risk assessments and safe work systems.
  • Understand and apply the Health and Safety at Work Act and other relevant legislation.
  • Immediately inform the Head of HSQEW of any situations requiring urgent rectification or halting of operations.
  • Introduce new techniques for enhancing HSQEW to the Head of HSQE.
  • Assist in or lead investigations into incidents, identifying root causes and recommending actionable solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Initiate and sustain positive measures to elevate HSQEW performance, safety compliance, and awareness.
  • Coordinate with inspectors from the Health and Safety Executive, local authorities, and emergency services as necessary, while fostering connections with local safety groups and professional organizations.

Qualifications and Training

  • Graduate or Chartered member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).
  • NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety.
  • Extensive and current knowledge of Health and Safety legislation.
  • Possession of an applicable CSCS Card.
  • Proficient in Accident Investigation Report Writing.

Knowledge and Experience

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in the relevant sector.
  • Understanding of Occupational Safety and Health risks and controls related to the organization's operations.
  • Experience in managing and developing personnel.

Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to work independently and adaptively, responding to business needs.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to embrace change and actively seek constructive feedback.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to working with individuals at all organizational levels.
  • Proficient in IT, with a solid understanding of Windows-based applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
