Position Overview

Tetra Tech is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Highways Engineer or Transport Planner at the Senior or Principal Consultant level. This role is crucial for leading our Development Management Implementation (DMI) team, ensuring the delivery of exceptional services in collaboration with Hertfordshire County Council.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Oversee a dedicated team of approximately 20 professionals, providing technical guidance and leadership.
  • Deliver high-quality outputs to both internal and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment with project goals.
  • Manage and review highway design projects, particularly those involving local authority standards.
  • Provide expert advice on highways Section 278 and Section 38 Agreement works, including the evaluation of developer proposals.
  • Prepare comprehensive work programs, budgets, and monitor project expenditures.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of developers' method statements and traffic management plans.
  • Perform road safety audits at all necessary stages of project development.
  • Carry out site inspections during and after construction, coordinating with developers on any required remedial actions.
  • Assess Transport Assessments and other relevant documents submitted with planning applications.
  • Offer pre-application consultations to developers regarding transport and highways issues.
Qualifications

To be considered for this key position, candidates should possess:

  • A degree or master's degree in a relevant field such as civil engineering or transport planning.
  • Professional accreditation, such as MICE or CIHT, is preferred.
  • Significant experience in highway design, preferably within a local authority context.
  • Proven project management skills, with experience in staff management being advantageous.
