Lead Infrastructure Engineer

Your New Role
National Highways is excited to announce a vacancy for a Lead Infrastructure Engineer within our North West Operations team. This role requires a high level of specialization and technical proficiency to support Engineers in assessing and addressing asset-specific requirements and preliminary solutions, particularly concerning Vehicle Restraint Systems (VRS), fencing, and traffic signage. You will serve as the technical authority for the designated asset categories, ensuring compliance with established asset policies and standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Prioritize the health and safety of both customers and employees throughout the planning and execution of service activities.
- Formulate asset-specific management strategies, ensuring that asset management decisions align with defined policies and standards, delivering value for money while contributing to business objectives.
- Identify, prioritize, and manage asset requirements in accordance with governance protocols to meet business goals.
- Provide expert technical guidance in developing preliminary solutions for renewal and enhancement projects, adhering to agreed methodologies and prioritization criteria, while considering innovative techniques, materials, constructability, and costs.
- Commission and oversee survey activities to facilitate asset improvement and renewal; review and approve technical briefs, reports, specifications, drawings, and supporting documentation.
- Continuously monitor and evaluate asset data, advocating for data quality, integrity, and adherence to standards, while offering coaching and support to regional colleagues involved in data management.
- Guide the creation of technical briefs for design and construction contractors involved in improvement and renewal projects.
Qualifications for Success
- A degree in a relevant field, or equivalent experience through a Higher National Diploma or Higher National Certificate.
- Extensive knowledge of asset condition evaluation and degradation modeling.
- In-depth understanding of asset-specific Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) standards and their application within the highway network.
- Familiarity with the Value Management process and/or cost-benefit analysis of projects is advantageous.
- Experience in highway infrastructure design, with proficiency in AutoCAD being a plus.
- Experience in highway construction and implementation methods.
