Position Overview

We are pleased to present an opportunity for individuals interested in pursuing training in Advanced Clinical Practice, aimed at evolving into the role of Senior Clinical Practitioner within our core CAMHS teams.

The MSc Advanced Clinical Practice Programme spans three years. Upon successful completion, you will be recognized as a Senior Clinical Practitioner, equipped with an expert knowledge base, advanced decision-making capabilities, and clinical competencies that allow for an expanded autonomous scope of practice, tailored to your specific practice context.

The Senior Clinical Practitioner role necessitates the provision of advanced clinical expertise, along with significant levels of judgement, discretion, and decision-making in clinical care delivery. Initially, you will be appointed as a Trainee Senior Clinical Practitioner (Band 7), transitioning to the Senior Clinical Practitioner (Band 8a) role upon completion of your training. A competitive selection process will be implemented.

Various funding options are available, including an apprenticeship pathway or the MSc Programme.

Key Responsibilities

The minimum entry criteria include:

  • Degree in Nursing
  • Registered Mental Health or Learning Disabilities Nurse
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Willingness and capability to undertake the MSc Advanced Clinical Practice
  • Significant post-qualification experience

The next cohort intake is scheduled for September 2024, with the application deadline for the course being set accordingly. Please refer to the attached job description for both Trainee and Senior Clinical Practitioner roles.

Job Duties

As a member of the Community CAMHS multi-professional team, the post holder will practice autonomously, enhancing their knowledge and experience to deliver complex and high-level assessment and diagnostic skills, including the use of invasive procedures, such as intravenous cannulation, while adhering to the NMC code of professional conduct.

The post holder will possess advanced communication skills, capable of presenting differential and non-differential diagnoses, alongside decision-making and problem-solving abilities for patient care, with a focus on improving outcomes. Responsibilities include examining, assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients within the scope of professional practice.

The post holder will collaborate within a multi-professional team (MDT) to provide initial assessments and ongoing care for patients with intricate mental and physical health needs. This role includes managing a caseload of patients daily, in partnership with the MDT.
