Position Overview

Are you interested in contributing to a distinctive law enforcement environment?

Do you possess expertise in overseeing and ensuring compliance while proactively enhancing operational processes?

If your answer is yes, the Assurance and Lessons role within the Headquarters Provost Marshal (Army) may be the ideal opportunity for you.

The HQ Provost Marshal (Army) and 1 Military Police Brigade are tasked with providing comprehensive military policing, custodial, and security services to the Army, as well as supporting broader Defence objectives. The HQ is composed of three main components: the Service Advisor, which offers governance and assurance; the Capability team, focused on developing future training, personnel, and technical solutions; and the Brigade HQ, which oversees our Military Police Units located throughout the UK and deployed internationally.

This role is structured for a commitment of 37 hours per week.

Role Responsibilities

The Assurance & Lessons (A&L) Team Leader (HEO grade) is accountable for the oversight of Royal Military Police (RMP) policing and investigative operations, pinpointing lessons learned, and advocating for policy updates to ensure alignment with best practices. This pivotal position within HQ PM(A) involves the formulation of policies that reflect policing best practices and adapt to legislative changes. The individual will also monitor operations to guarantee compliance and conduct comprehensive Performance Assessment Visits (PAV) to Units at least once a year.

Key Duties Include:

  • Overseeing all RMP Second Line Defence Assurance activities related to Policing and Investigations.
  • Representing the Investigations & Policy Department at the Assurance Working Group and Strategic Assurance Board.
  • Assessing RMP Policing lessons learned and coordinating a process for timely policy amendments, as well as contributing to any reviews of policing/investigation training.
  • Utilizing Service Police IT systems and other technological resources to remotely monitor and evaluate RMP investigation activities against current legislation and doctrine, reporting any deficiencies or unsatisfactory performance to SO1 Investigations & Policy.
  • Managing a military staff member who serves as your assistant.
  • Employing Service Police IT systems to compile, analyze, and disseminate crime and policing statistics as required by the RMP and the Service Justice, Discipline and Conduct Group, MOD, and providing performance management data to the Service Justice Executive Group quarterly.
  • Preparing a Daily Crime Briefing Document and offering updates on notable cases.
  • Submitting a monthly legal adviser return to AFCLAA and investigating any irregularities or challenges raised by solicitors.
  • Collecting and distributing Court Martial results to investigating units.

Development Opportunities

This position offers substantial experience regarding Service Police procedures and practices. The incumbent will have the chance to shape and influence Service Police policies and processes, with opportunities to visit RMP Policing Units in various locations.
