About the Role:
Ground Control is seeking a dedicated and commercially astute Principal Ecologist to enhance our in-house Ecology Consultancy team. This position is ideal for an experienced Senior Ecologist looking to advance their career or a Principal Ecologist eager to broaden their expertise within a progressive, environmentally conscious organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee project management for UK Habitat Classification Surveys and licensed protected species assessments;
  • Develop competitive tenders and efficiently create detailed fee quotations;
  • Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Biodiversity Net Gain reports, protected species assessments, Habitat Management Plans, BREEAM assessments, Habitats Regulations Assessments, and Ecological Impact Assessments;
  • Manage medium to large-scale projects while monitoring financial performance;
  • Provide guidance and support to junior ecologists;
  • Address logistical and regulatory challenges effectively.

Candidate Profile:
We encourage applications from experienced Senior Ecologists or current Principals seeking new opportunities. Candidates must possess full membership in the Chartered Institute of Ecology & Environmental Management (MCIEEM), a relevant bachelor’s degree or higher, and at least one protected species license. A Personal Track Safety accreditation is advantageous.

  • Demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, particularly in technical reporting;
  • Possess a robust understanding of UK wildlife legislation and its application;
  • Communicate clearly and consistently;
  • Be approachable and a collaborative team member, even during challenging times;
  • Hold a valid UK driving license.
