This pivotal role will operate under the supervision of the team manager of the Disabled Children's Team (DCT) and will collaborate closely with our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) colleagues and various services throughout the council.
Our Children's Social Care division is recognized for its innovative approach and commitment to therapeutic assessment and support. We have received a 'Good' rating from OFSTED and continue to strive for excellence.
Role Overview:
The successful candidate will spearhead the development of social care components of the SEND strategy and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). This role will facilitate enhanced collaboration between social care and SEND personnel, serving as a key source of expert guidance on SEND matters within the social care framework. The DSCO will work to foster improved inter-service cooperation to achieve better outcomes for children receiving social care with SEND support.
The ideal candidate will possess the ability to influence stakeholders, cultivate and maintain effective relationships, and work collaboratively with a diverse range of partners across the local area. This position is integral to the Disabled Children's Team, where you will be part of a supportive management group responsible for delivering social work services to disabled children, their families, and their extended networks.

Qualifications Required:
- A relevant social work qualification
- A minimum of 2 years of social work experience
- Supervisory experience and/or a PEPS qualification is preferred
- Strong understanding of the legislative framework and guidelines governing children's services and safeguarding
- Knowledge of applicable social work theories and practices
- Proficient IT skills for operating standard electronic systems
- Well-developed emotional intelligence
- A genuine passion and commitment to supporting vulnerable families in our community
