Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Ophthalmic Technician to join our team at Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will play a vital role in enhancing the patient's pathway from referral to treatment through the Ophthalmology Outpatient department.

Main Responsibilities

As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will be responsible for carrying out essential tests to support the work of medical and nursing staff in the Eye Department. This will include:

  • Visual acuity testing
  • Taking images using OCT (Ocular Coherence Tomographer)
  • Assisting with diagnostics tests to assist with diagnosis

You will work closely with the clinical staff and nursing team to ensure that patients receive the best possible care. You will also have the opportunity to learn about the specialty within a safe environment and receive support from nursing colleagues, clinicians, and Consultants.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • Previous experience within a healthcare setting, preferably in ophthalmology
  • Good communication skills, able to communicate verbally and in writing to staff, patients, and relatives
  • Ability to prioritize workload and manage own time effectively
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with staff and colleagues
