Building Estates Supervisor
Job Overview
The role involves supporting the District Building Surveyor and the Estates Department in providing professional building, utilities, and general estate services efficiently across the East England Forest District.
This is a part-time position, requiring 4 days of work per week.
The advertised salary is calculated on a pro-rata basis.
Role Responsibilities
For over a century, we have been nurturing, shaping, and preserving over 1,500 forests across the nation for the benefit and enjoyment of current and future generations. We manage more land and trees than any other organization in England, creating landscapes that benefit people, wildlife, and timber. We are the largest supplier of sustainably-sourced timber in England and work to conserve numerous plant and animal species. Our commitment extends to protecting some of the country's most significant habitats, which are home to rare wildlife. We are dedicated to restoring vital ecosystems and reintroducing missing species to our landscapes. Through careful planning and expert management, our forests will continue to flourish, providing carbon storage, flood reduction, and accessible green spaces for all ages and abilities.
The East England Forest District is one of six districts in England, encompassing forests and assets in various counties.
The Building Estates Supervisor (BES) will define and oversee a variety of contracts aimed at maintaining, repairing, and enhancing the built estate while ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and operational efficiencies.
The BES will implement and supervise work programs to a high standard, ensuring adherence to legislation and Forestry England protocols. This includes promoting compliance with relevant policies, procedures, regulations, and legislation, particularly concerning equality, diversity, and health and safety. The BES must be adept at managing challenging discussions.
The BES will provide support and guidance to staff involved in the management and upkeep of all Forestry England properties and built assets. This includes conducting Building Inspection Reports (BIR) and assisting the broader Estates Department in reviewing BIRs generated by building managers throughout the District. The BES will aid in the implementation and management of identified remedial works.
Additionally, the BES will liaise with tenants regarding the execution and assessment of works performed on leased properties.
The BES will plan and monitor the progress and quality of routine contract work and assist the wider Estates Department with more complex projects. This will involve visiting active contract sites for pre-start meetings and conducting follow-up visits as necessary.
The BES will respond decisively to any violations of contract conditions, including health and safety standards. Experience in producing and adhering to risk assessments and method statements is essential, along with an understanding of the current Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
The BES will also manage regular compliance-related tasks associated with the built estate, including waste management, asbestos handling, water hygiene, and fire safety risk management.
