Job Summary

Murphy is seeking a highly skilled Senior Track Engineer to join our team in the North West and Central regions. As a Senior Track Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the successful development and implementation of our portfolio of renewals works, including bridge, stations, drainage, and earthworks projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaise with designers to ensure designs are efficient and safe to build, install, test, and commission.
  • Ensure that drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction of the works.
  • Input into the Project Execution Plan to document the planned construction methodologies.
  • Review construction programmes for completeness and integration with other disciplines.
  • Prepare Inspection and Test Plan documents for track elements of projects as required.
  • Carry out inspections in accordance with the Inspection and Test Plan in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with foremen and supervisors to ensure full understanding of proposed track construction methodology and design.
  • Resolve technical problems at all levels and follow up with TQs.
  • Accurately set out track works and dimensional control.
  • Produce survey information, labelled productivity photos, and redline drawings for as-built records.
  • Manage hire and off-hire of surveying equipment as required.
  • Ensure Critical Rail Temperatures and Track Monitoring are recorded and reported as required.
  • Ensure Track Handback Engineers complete Form A-G accurately.
  • Assist team members with engineering input as required.
  • Attend site as required to liaise with Site Managers, Engineers, and sub-contractors.
  • Manage ESRs and TSRs.
  • Maintain good working relations with client, designer, team, and supply chain.
  • Keep a full and accurate daily site diary.

  • Actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion in all work and support organisational initiatives, policies, and procedures.

Requirements

  • Proactive Senior Track Engineer with ability to coordinate and resolve challenges between interfacing disciplines and specialist contractors.
  • Working knowledge of NR Standards.
  • Experience in construction of Plain Line, Switches & Crossings, Track Bed and Formation, Track Drainage, and UTXs.
  • PTS Qualified, CSCS Card (relevant type).
  • Willing to work overtime during nights and weekends.
  • Full UK driving license.
  • Experience carrying out track monitoring and producing Track Monitoring Plans (desirable).
  • Track Handback Engineer (desirable).
  • Critical Rail Temperature (CRT) examiner/management competence (desirable).
  • Previous CRE Construction experience or ability to be mentored into the role (desirable).
  • Confident working with AutoCAD software producing survey, setting out, and as-built drawings (desirable).
  • HNC or HND (desirable).
