About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Mental Health and Money Advice Specialist to support individuals with mental illness and their carers, partner agencies with financial matters.

The Mental Health and Money Advice Service is a pioneering initiative that addresses mental and financial health together. Our goal is to break the cycle of debt and mental health issues by providing online information and advice, as well as casework provided by telephone.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide expert advice and casework to clients by telephone who are experiencing mental health and financial difficulties.
  • Complete the debt advice process with clients by offering guidance and support on a range of debt solutions and strategies.
  • Offer advice and casework on welfare benefits.
  • Provide advice and casework in relation to mental health issues, such as accessing treatment and care.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to delivering a service that meets the quality requirements of our funders.
  • Work collaboratively with a team to ensure smooth delivery of the service and exceptional client care.
  • Be flexible and adaptable, with a willingness to learn and implement new processes as required.
  • Ensure systems are used effectively to enable the management and ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the project.
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of mental health, welfare benefits, debts, and financial advice to meet the needs of the service.
  • Take feedback from various stakeholders and contribute to innovative changes and adaptations to service delivery.
  • Maintain accurate and accessible records, and ensure casework is managed effectively.

Adferiad Recovery delivers a comprehensive and coordinated response to the exceptional circumstances faced by individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use conditions, and related issues. We harness the expertise and experience of leading Welsh charities CAIS, Hafal, and WCADA to meet the needs of our most vulnerable clients with a single, unified, and comprehensive approach.

Person Specification
  • Knowledge
    • Familiarity with relevant legislation, regulation, guidance, codes of practice, and industry standards.
    • Understanding of the social care needs of individuals with serious mental illness.
    • Understanding and knowledge of the barriers faced by individuals with complex and multiple needs, as well as relevant specialist support services.
  • Qualifications
    • GCSE or O Level standard education.
  • Experience
    • Experience working in financial and/or welfare benefits support, or a similar environment.
    • Experience of working with vulnerable clients, particularly those affected by mental illness.
    • Experience of helping clients with budgeting and supporting with benefit applications.
    • Experience of working with electronic case recording systems.
    • Experience in remote advice delivery via telephone, email, virtual chat, etc.
    • Well-developed IT skills - comfortable using Microsoft Office packages and bespoke databases.
