Position Overview

To be eligible for this position, it is crucial that you possess a valid full category C1 driving license. This role is specifically for candidates within the South Yorkshire region.

An Emergency Medical Support Assistant (EMSA) plays a vital role in responding to urgent calls in collaboration with a paramedic, assisting in delivering critical care to patients and facilitating their transport to medical facilities when necessary. This position involves attending various emergency situations, often requiring extensive travel and proficient emergency driving skills to reach incidents promptly.

The EMSA role offers a remarkable opportunity to advance a career in the healthcare sector within the Yorkshire Ambulance Service. You will be expected to complete a Level 3 Ambulance Support Worker Apprenticeship , a nationally recognized qualification that validates your operational skills in the healthcare field. Successful completion of this apprenticeship will open pathways for career advancement within the Trust, including opportunities to become a registered paramedic.

Each shift presents unique challenges; you may be called to assist a road accident victim with severe injuries or transport a critically ill infant to a specialized care facility.

As an Emergency Medical Support Assistant, you will serve as a prominent role model, demonstrating professionalism in your interactions with patients, the public, and colleagues.

In this role, you will be expected to maintain a high standard of driving skills in accordance with UK national regulations and successfully complete a Level 3 qualification in Emergency Ambulance Response Driving.

As this is a driving position, it is essential to hold a full driving license (with no more than three penalty points) that includes the full C1 category.

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above, including Mathematics and English Language, or Level 2 Functional Skills in English and Mathematics.
  • A valid full UK driving license (with no more than three penalty points).
  • Experience in engaging with the general public.
  • A demonstrated commitment to teamwork.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a caring profession or 12 months of operational experience in Patient Transport Services.
