Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and communicative Medical Receptionist to provide exceptional patient care and administrative support. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a 'can-do' attitude, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Main Responsibilities

  • Maintain and monitor the practice appointment system
  • Process personal, telephone, and e-requests for appointments
  • Answer incoming phone calls, transferring calls or dealing with the caller's request appropriately
  • Signpost patients to the correct service
  • Initiate contact with and respond to requests from patients, team members, and external agencies
  • Photocopy documentation as required
  • Data entry of new and temporary registrations and relevant patient information as required
  • Input data into the patient's healthcare records as necessary
  • Direct requests for information, such as SAR, insurance, or solicitors' letters, and DVLA forms to the administrative team
  • Manage all queries as necessary in an efficient manner
  • Carry out system searches as requested
  • Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times
  • Monitor and maintain the reception area and notice boards
  • Support all clinical staff with general tasks as requested
  • Book transport and interpreter
  • Taking payment from patients using a payment card reader and petty cash

Person Specification

  • Essential:
    • GCSE level or equivalent
    • Experience of working with the general public
    • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
    • Strong IT skills
    • Clear, polite telephone manner
    • Competent in the use of Office and Outlook
    • Effective time management (Planning & Organising)
    • Ability to work as a team member and autonomously
    • Good interpersonal skills
    • Problem-solving & analytical skills
    • Ability to follow policy and procedure
  • Desirable:
    • GCSE Mathematics & English (C or above)
    • AMSPAR Receptionists Qualification
    • NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care
    • EMIS user skills

About the Role

This is a part-time position, working 35 hours per week, with a flexible schedule that includes occasional work on Saturdays and Bank Holidays. The successful candidate will be a team player, able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and provide exceptional patient care.
