About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate and reliable volunteer to support an individual with sight loss in their daily life. As a Befriender Volunteer, you will play a vital role in helping them to maintain their independence and engage in activities they enjoy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accompany the person we support on outings and activities, such as going for a walk, having lunch, or participating in horse riding or shopping
  • Provide emotional support and companionship to help build trust and confidence
  • Assist with daily tasks and activities as needed, such as sighted guide or orientation
  • Attend introductory sessions to get to know the person we support and the team at our service in Maidstone
Requirements
  • Be over 18 years old
  • Have a good sense of humour, enjoy chatting, and be a good listener
  • Be punctual and reliable
  • Be kind, empathetic, and patient
  • Be able to deal with information in line with our data protection and confidentiality procedures
