Overview The Emerging Research Leader will receive guidance to cultivate and establish an autonomous research agenda that aligns with the initiatives of the Centre for Trophoblast Research. This role requires full engagement in the Centre's activities and collaboration with the host department. The successful candidate will mentor MPhil/masters, summer, and/or undergraduate students. Opportunities may arise to co-apply for research funding to recruit, train, and oversee postdoctoral researchers, research assistants, technical staff, and PhD candidates, contingent on external funding outcomes. The individual in this position is expected to build a robust portfolio of high-impact publications and share their research findings through various channels, including conferences and seminars. Compliance with all pertinent regulations (Home Office, HTA, HFEA) is essential.

Required Qualifications Candidates must possess a PhD and demonstrate a strong publication record in reputable academic journals or equivalent.

Eligibility Criteria This fellowship aims to propel the careers of future faculty members in trophoblast biology. Success in this role is defined by the fellow's ability to secure a career development fellowship to form their own independent research team upon completion of the fellowship. Potential awards include:

MRC Career Development Fellowship, Wellcome Career Development Award, Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowship, ERC starting grant, or any internationally recognized equivalent.

Typically, candidates should hold a PhD and have completed no more than one significant research tenure (e.g., postdoctoral fellowship), with allowances for career interruptions due to health or family obligations. Applicants must articulate how the Emerging Research Leader Fellowship will facilitate their long-term professional aspirations.

Contractual Information

Appointments will be on a fixed-term, full-time basis for a duration of three years, with the possibility of a one-year extension. The contract includes funding for research materials and equipment up to £20,000 annually, along with travel support up to £750.
