About the Role

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Autism Support Worker to join a welcoming school in Christchurch. As an Autism Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting students with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with ASC and SEMH needs, helping them to build their social, emotional, and academic skills.
  • Work closely with teachers and staff to create and implement individualised learning plans and strategies.
  • Support students in developing their independence and self-confidence, creating a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Build strong relationships with students, families, and staff to encourage good communication and teamwork.
  • Keep track of student progress and share feedback and recommendations as needed.
Requirements
  • Experience working with children or young people with ASC and/or SEMH needs.
  • Understanding of ASC and SEMH and the ability to implement effective support strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, families, and colleagues.
  • A proactive and flexible approach to problem-solving and support.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a dedicated team.
