About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Catering Assistant to join our team at Hexham General Hospital. As a Catering Assistant, you will be responsible for maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene in the Catering Department, ensuring that food is prepared and served to patients, visitors, and staff in a safe and efficient manner.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Receiving, checking, and storing food and supplies in accordance with departmental policies and procedures
  • Preparing and serving food to patients, visitors, and staff in the dining room and on wards
  • Operating the central dish wash machine and cleaning and re-stocking vending machines
  • Preparing and dispatching meals, including patient meals and snacks
  • Providing excellent customer service and ensuring that patients and staff receive high-quality food and service

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Basic Food Hygiene and/or Level 1 Food Safety Certificate (or must be achieved within 6 months of start date)
  • GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent)
  • Flexibility in work pattern and ability to work at short notice to cover staff absence
