Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Biomedical Scientist to join our Histopathology Department at The London Clinic. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for assisting the Senior Biomedical Scientist and Chief Biomedical Scientist in providing an efficient and effective service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the routine histology tasks, including embedding, microtomy, special staining, immunohistochemistry, specimen handling, biopsy/small tissue transfers, frozen sectioning, and internal quality control checking of stained slides.
  • Follow policy and procedures at all times.
  • Process internal and external quality assurance.
  • Assist in the evaluation of new equipment and method verification.
  • Assist in the maintenance of stock control.
  • Operate and maintain analytical equipment and perform testing in the section, after documented training and competency assessment.
  • Participate on a rotational shift pattern in all areas of the routine and specialized laboratory bench work.
  • Observe departmental quality and health and safety policies.
  • Comply with the quality management system.
  • Undertake in-house audits.
  • Maintain an up-to-date awareness and knowledge of current developments.
  • Comply with data entry and governance requirements at all times.
  • Promote the smooth running of the department.
  • Be an excellent role model for junior staff.
  • Deliver excellent customer service.
  • Assist in the preparation of documentation.
  • Participate in annual joint review.
Requirements
  • HCPC post-registration recent histology laboratory experience.
  • Experience of UKAS assessments and knowledge of the ISO standard.
  • Degree-level education (BSc in Biomedical Sciences) and IBMS specialist portfolio or MSc.
  • Experience in using a LIMS system and in experience in patient data entry.
  • Experience in Cytology.
  • Experience in Mohs.
