Position Overview

The Advanced Maternal Care Midwife will primarily operate within the antenatal clinic, collaborating closely with the maternal medicine and diabetes management teams to deliver comprehensive antenatal services to women with intricate health requirements.

Key Responsibilities

As a vital member of the maternal medicine team, the incumbent will be tasked with providing midwifery support to expectant mothers who present with pre-existing health conditions. In this role, you will deliver direct maternity care in partnership with the maternal medicine consultant and multidisciplinary teams (MDT). The responsibilities include managing an antenatal clinic tailored to the needs of women facing complex medical challenges or diabetes during pregnancy, as well as evaluating self-referrals into maternity services.

In collaboration with each individual woman or birthing person, you will assess, strategize, implement, and coordinate their maternity care journey.

By working alongside other team members, you will contribute to the ongoing enhancement of maternal medicine care pathways and frameworks, ensuring alignment with national standards as a key participant in the maternal medicine team.

You will be accountable for delivering exceptional, evidence-based, and person-centered midwifery care to women across outpatient, inpatient, and community environments.

Candidate Profile

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Midwife
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.

Desirable

  • Completion of an assessor/mentorship course or equivalent
  • Documented evidence of further studies: personal portfolio

Knowledge and Understanding

Essential

  • Awareness of current national and local midwifery issues
  • Ability to make informed clinical decisions based on research evidence and individual circumstances
  • Understanding of child protection protocols
  • Awareness of risk management practices
  • Strong knowledge and experience in managing diabetes, hypertension, and other medical conditions.

Desirable

  • Understanding of team-based approaches in midwifery

Skills and Abilities
