An exciting opportunity has arisen at the College for a Technical Workshop Supervisor/Assessor to join the Building Services team based in Coalville. Working in this role you will support the delivery of teaching and learning within the workshop environment, ensuring that resources, supplies, tools and equipment, are effectively and safely managed and maintained.

You may currently be working in a construction setting looking and looking to progress into a career in teaching. You will support a wide range of Construction students to develop and deliver their skills to ensure they are successful on their chosen programmes.

You will have an aptitude for accuracy, be able to maintain our superb workshop facilities and contribute to the continued improvement of the Construction programmes to achieve the best outcomes for students and stakeholders.

You will also be willing to obtain a relevant assessors qualification (A1 or equivalent) if you do not already possess one.

Tasks
  1. Ensure the Health and Safety of students in the use of equipment, tools and resources required to develop their skills and knowledge.

  2. Review, monitor and complete annual risk assessments associated with the workshop environment, including COSHH.

  3. Organise safe systems for storage of material and equipment.

  4. To undertake line management responsibility for supervisors within Building Services

  5. To work closely with the Section Manager to ensure that priorities are sequenced and met

  6. To assess and deliver sessions in the workshop setting as required by the Section Manager

  7. To arrange workshop cover in the event of staff shortages

  8. To take part in open days / evenings as required

  9. To ensure that both Electrical and Plumbing workshops are maintained and equipped

  10. Ensure that workshop and ancillary areas, including the service yard and hygiene facilities are kept secure, clean and in a fit and safe condition of use.

  11. Maintain and keep up to date inventory and records of equipment and materials.

  12. Monitor and maintain stock levels and order replacements as and when

  13. Ensure that any materials or equipment are disposed of safely and in accordance with College procedures, statutory regulation or manufacturers’ guidelines.

  14. To effectively manage any budgets that may be delegated from time to time, ensuring that best value is obtained and that Financial Regulations are complied with.

  15. Check and maintain the operation of equipment and machinery, carrying out routine maintenance, repairs or replacement, as necessary and ensure that appropriate servicing is completed, in accordance with maintenance schedules.

  16. Issue and record tools, equipment and materials to staff and students as required.

  17. Ensure the safe storage and issue of flammable and health injurious liquids

  18. Assist in the development of the workshop to ensure continuous improvement in practical training

  19. Receive and check all incoming equipment and materials

  20. Assemble, set out, check and dismantle equipment, tools, materials and vehicles

  21. Design, manufacture and construct equipment for use in the teaching/training programmes of the department

  22. Contribute to the production of teaching and learning materials and resources in the workshop environment

  23. Assist in the delivery of practical training and give demonstrations in the use of equipment, tools, materials and repair and testing techniques, as appropriate.

  24. Assist in the preparation and organisation of formative and summative workshop assessments, including technical support, advice and guidance.

  25. Support teaching teams overseeing the quality of students’ work and provide feedback to develop students’ confidence and resilience within the workshop environment.

  26. Supervise and assist students as appropriate, providing students with support, and guidance including during induction.

  27. Notify the Section Head of any building maintenance requirements

Requirements
  1. Qualified to Level 2 or equivalent in a relevant engineering subject area in Domestic Electrical Installation.
  2. Qualified to Level 2 in English and Maths or be able to demonstrate competence at this level though diagnostic testing.
  3. Recent and relevant industrial experience
  4. Knowledge of electrical/engineering processes
