An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Emotional Wellbeing Team at the Jessop Wing. You will work alongside the specialist midwives helping to provide support for women with mental health concerns through pregnancy and up to 28 days postnatally both in the hospital and community setting. The role will involve both clinical and administrative duties including supporting midwives with specialist clinics and to maintain records, supporting women on a one-to-one basis and triaging calls.

You will have training and/or experience of working with women who have mental health concerns, helping to support them and their families. Experience as a maternity support worker is preferred but not essential.

The Emotional Wellbeing Team is currently expanding, and we have lots of new projects being developed. The mental health support worker role will offer exciting new challenges and a chance to develop your knowledge and experience.

Ensure that knowledge of local safeguarding policy and procedure is maintained

To be vigilant of Child Protection issues and refer issues of concern in a timely manner to registered midwife complying with legal requirements.

Assists the midwife in providing physical, social and psychological support to women and their families in the hospital and community setting.

The Directorate of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Neonatology is based at the Jessop Wing which is linked to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. The maternity unit has over 6800 births per year and is a Regional Tertiary Maternity Service with a Level 3 Neonatal Unit of 44 cots. A tertiary Gynae-Oncology service and a changing Gynaecology Service, which includes an Assisted Conception Unit, complete the services within the Directorate.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 18 months due to the post being externally funded. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts taking into consideration the ongoing source of the external funding and the requirement for the post to be maintained.
