**Essex County Council (ECC) are delighted to be supporting Braintree Council to recruit a **Street Cleansing Operative (Part time).**

**The Opportunity**:
We are looking for a part time Street Cleansing Operative to join our Operations team.

Working primarily at the George Yard multi-storey car park in Braintree, your duties will include locking the premises, litter picking, bin emptying and sweeping and cleaning the lifts and stairwells. You will also carry out general street cleansing duties at other locations across the District.

This role is **20 hours per week**, which will include weekend working. The working hours will be Sunday 12pm-5pm and Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 2.30pm-7.30pm.

**Please note, a full, clean driving licence, together with a 3.5 tonne licence, is essential for this role.**

**Experience**:
You will also have:

- Ability to work outdoors in all weathers together with the ability to walk, bend, kneel and stand for long periods of time and perform heavy lifting if needed.
- Ability to work weekends on a rota basis.
- A full clean driving licence together with a 3.5 tonne licence, (essential), and 7.5 tonne licence, (desirable but not essential)
- Ability to work in a team or individual based environment.
- Flexibility and willingness to be involved in all aspects of the operation of the street cleansing service.
- A polite and helpful manner with the public at all times.
- Have an understanding of Health & Safety systems including manual handling and risk assessments.

**Accountabilities**:
**George Yard Multi-Storey Car Park (MSCP)**
- Lock the car park (Daily - Mon to Sun). There may also be occasions when the car park needs to be opened to cover for other staff absence.
- Inspect the car park on a daily basis and deal with any H & S issues within your control and report those that require further action.
- To carry out a range of tasks defined within George Yard Car Park (Braintree) to the relevant specifications and work schedules, These tasks include, but are not limited to:

- Check and manually sweep/Litter pick each floor level including the stairwells and empty the litter bins. (Daily).
- Clean all the doors inside and out to the, stairwells and entry/exit doors (Daily) and support any programmed deep clean of the car park when arranged from time to time.
- Clean the lifts inside and out including the doors, mirrored panels floors including removal of chewing gum where applicable (Daily).
- Clean and remove any small areas of graffiti and reporting larger areas that need the Clean Team to remove (Daily/As Applicable).
- Organise and keep the storage cupboard tidy (Daily/As Applicable).
- Undertake daily patrol of the car park and report any visible damage to signs/adverts/ticket machines around the car park to the Contracts & Project Manager based at Unit 4.
- Report any wear and tear maintenance issues around the car park to the Contracts & Project Manager based at Unit 4 (Daily/As required).
- Report any incidents involving Anti-Social Behaviour including vandalism & damage behaviour within the Car Park
- Manually sweep and remove detritus from the stairwells paying particular attention to the edges around the columns. (Daily/As required).
- Clean at high level as required to remove dust and cobwebs under ramps (Weekly).
- To cover the other operative with duties at George Yard Car Park during their annual leave, special leave or sickness and be available for civil events when required.

**Town Centre**
- Carry our street cleaning duties in the town centres, including, litter picking, emptying litter bins, removal of fly posting, graffiti, weeds and manual/mechanical sweeping.
- Report safeguarding issues to Street Cleansing and Markets supervisor including concerns regarding potential homelessness, vandalism and anti-social behaviour and normal wear and tear/maintenance issue involving street furniture.
- Work with the Street Scene Enforcement Officers on commercial waste/fly tipping offences in and around Braintree town centre and collate evidence and be prepared to attend court (if required)
- To be involved in any partnership/joint working with businesses and George Yard Management Company And the North Essex parking Partnership when necessary
- To provide holiday and sickness cover as required.
- To participate in the Council’s Duty Emergency Call-Out Service and any Civic Emergencies that may occur from time to time.
- Operating and using the Council’s range of tools and equipment and ensuring these are used and maintained properly.
