This is a 8 PA post for a Consultant in Diabetes & Endocrinology. An opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to further develop and maintain our high quality local service.

The diabetes and endocrine service allows adequate exposure to subspecialist interests whilst also providing exposure to general medicine. The general medicine cover is split between consultant colleagues and involves ward rounds of 14 in-patients on our dedicated ward. Education and support of junior medical colleagues is important.

There will be requirement to undertake some outpatient clinics each week on the Princess Alexandra Hospital main site. Occasionally, the appointee may be required to work in outpatient clinics located either at St Margaret’s Hospital, Epping or Herts & Essex Hospital, Bishops Stortford. Time off in lieu will be considered (such as for weekend working).

The new consultant will undertake outpatient workload, provide inpatient care on our dedicated ward and will continue to review and develop the service to meet the requirements of the local population.

The trust maintains close links with our tertiary referral centres. Our patients are well supported by partners including Addenbrook’s Hospital, Cambridge, University College London Hospital, King’s College Hospital, Queens’s Hospital, Romford and Queen’s Square Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. Attendance at tertiary referral centre multidisciplinary meetings is encouraged for patient discussion and CPD (one day per month can be arranged for this purpose).

We are a District General Hospital providing acute services to the population of West Essex and East & North Hertfordshire from a 489 bedded site in Harlow, Essex (PAH) and two Community hospitals, St Margaret’s Hospital (SMH), Epping and the Herts and Essex Hospital (HEH) in Bishops Stortford. Originally opened in 1965 the Trusts vision is to become one of the best local hospitals in the country and this is based on the foundation of its values;

The Diabetes & Endocrinology department is based at The Princess Alexandra Hospital. Outpatient clinics run on-site, as well as at two of our community hospitals - Herts and Essex Hospital in Bishop Stortford, and St Margaret’s Hospital in Epping. We also run virtual clinics (via telephone and video-conferencing) to support our patients.
