The Company:

Job purpose:
The Master shall be responsible for the ship and the safety of its crew. This includes the safety of the ship, the lives of all personnel on board, protection of the marine environment and safeguarding property.

The Master is to ensure that company operating procedures are followed and has overall responsibility for maintaining the Safety Management System on board the vessel, with due regard to the protection of the marine environment.
The Master reports to and is accountable to the Tetney Operations Manager.

Key Responsibilities:
The Master shall ensure that all applicable regulations, company and charterers requirements are complied with during all operations.

Master’s are responsible to the Tetney Operations Manager for the ship and its crew. This includes the safety of the ship, the lives of all personnel on board, protection of the marine environment and safeguarding property.

With respect to safety and pollution prevention, the Master has the overriding authority and responsibility to make decisions and take whatever action is required.

As the Company’s senior representative on board, the Master is required to encourage full understanding and implementation of the Management System onboard the vessel by all officers and crew. Masters are expected to lead by example. Verbal instructions shall be given in a clear and unambiguous manner. Masters are required to make use of the Master’s Standing Orders which are to be supplemented by Night Orders and to implement Company procedures and instructions

The Master’s responsibilities are summarised but not limited to:
Ensuring the vessel is in all respects seaworthy prior to and throughout each voyage. This includes confirming the vessel has sufficient fuel and water to reach her intended destination making due allowance for weather and tidal conditions, is not overloaded, is manned by appropriately competent seafarers and is in possession of all required certification.
- Reporting accurately and promptly all accidents and dangerous occurrences, any deficiencies that impact upon the safety of the ship and/or the protection of the environment. Ensuring that an investigation of all incidents is undertaken.
- Practicing emergency drills/contingency plans.
- Confirming that all personnel on board have an adequate understanding of their duties to perform them without putting themselves, their shipmates or the ship at risk and have received essential information concerning their actions in an emergency situation. Ensure through Heads of Department that crew members, visitors and contractors are aware of the Company safety and environmental policy and that they comply with relevant procedures. Communication of received information and instructions to crew members.
- Continual verification that required actions and controls are being correctly implemented and monitors and reviews the effectiveness of the Management System aboard.
- The enforcement of legislation, Codes of Practice and all aspects of safety and pollution prevention onboard the vessel.
- Maintains a good professional relationship with client throughout and leads by example in this respect.
- Ensuring the safe navigation of the vessel at all times by diligent voyage planning, execution, monitoring and having full regard for the International Regulations for Preventing Collision at Sea.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
Minimum Qualification / Must Hold:

- Valid certificate of medical fitness for seafarers, such as the ENG1 or equivalent.
- Masters Certificate II/2
- GMDSS
- ECDIS General
- ARPA
- NARAS O & M
- HELM M
- Sea Survival/Personal Survival Techniques (STCW Code-Table A-VI/1-1)
- Proficiency in Survival Craft & Rescue Boats (CPSC) (STCW Code-Table A-VI/2-1)
- Advance Fire Fighting Certificate (STCW Code-Table A-VI/1-2)
- Personal Safety & Social Responsibility (STCW Code-Table A-VI/1-4)
- Certificate of Medical Care
- Ship Security Officer Certificate

Essential Experience:
Previous experience as Master and also of ship handling in close quarter situations.
For this role you will need previous experience as a Master on similar type of vessels to the Trent Fisher.
Dynamic Positioning qualification and/or experience will be advantageous.
