An exciting opportunity is available for a fixed term band 6 stroke specialist orthoptist at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join a newly created stroke service and be part of the role out of the new service. The service is part of the Orthoptic department consisting of 10 Orthoptists and 2 Optometrists.

You should demonstrate competent Orthoptic skills to determine diagnosis and develop effective treatment plans with adult patients on a range of stroke related visual problems, as well as being organised and able to exercise flexibility with working locations based on stroke wards, outpatient and community clinics across multiple sites. Home visits to patients may be required.

Excellent communication skills are expected with stroke patients, their carers/relatives and with the larger multi disciplinary stroke team. Band 6 leadership skills should be demonstrable.

You will need to take direct referrals, prioritise and judge requirements for appointments and onward referral. You may be first point of contact for patients and be responsible for ensuring the provision of compassionate, safe and high quality care.

As a teaching Trust, you will be a clinical tutor to undergraduate Orthoptists.

Experience in this role would be beneficial, but not essential as training can be provided. Please see the job description for more information.

The post is for 12 months, and part time hours/split post will also be considered.
