An exciting and highly rewarding opportunity has arisen for an experienced orthoptist to work within a Greater Manchester Stroke Project to provide orthoptic stroke services to acute and patients undergoing rehabilitation after stroke.

This exciting development is building up a new service and involves the orthoptist being involved in all developmental stages from starting assessments, pathway development, and audit of clinical outcomes.

A keen desire to enhance your skills is required as the post involves quality improvement throughout the project and looking at both qualitative and quantitative data to show the benefits an orthoptic stroke service can give to improving the lives of our stroke patients.

To undertake a team leader role in planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating the Squire Catalyst Stroke Project implementing an Orthoptic Stroke Service at Stepping Hill Hospital. Stepping Hill Hospital is a hyper acute stroke centre and the work involves linking in with a large multidisciplinary team both in the acute setting and in community.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the provision of compassionate, safe and high quality care of orthoptic patients in line with Health Care Proficiency Standards (HCPC). The Orthoptist has a fundamental role in service delivery, working autonomously in the diagnosis and management of complex adult and paediatric orthoptic cases in Stockport and High Peak.

The post holder will be responsible for the provision of compassionate, safe and high-quality care of orthoptic patients and demonstrate leadership, develop and audit the provision of a specialised orthoptic acquired brain injury (ABI) service. The orthoptist has a fundamental role in service planning, delivery and working autonomously in the diagnosis and management of complex adult and paediatric orthoptic cases in Stockport Hospital, community clinics and provide home and residential home visits.

To undertake a team leader role in planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Service. Providing stroke visual impairment screening, assessment and treatment to patients on a Hyper acute stroke unit.

To plan, co-ordinate and develop referral pathways from a hyper acute stroke service into outpatient and community and voluntary services.

To undertake training and education of all multi-disciplinary professionals working within ABI services.

To be responsible for operational delivery of Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Orthoptic Services.

To provide clinical leadership to the orthoptic service and highlight any clinical governance relating to the orthoptic service to the Stroke lead Orthoptist.
