The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.

The Role

The Role : The Domestic Abuse Caseworkers work with High Risk Domestic Abuse Victims providing immediate Victim Safety Planning following an incident. This is a fast paced role within a busy department, working alongside the Investigating Officers to support and investigate High Risk offences of Domestic Abuse. The team also investigate offences of Rape and Serious Sexual Offences and Adult and Child Protection concerns.

Key Responsibilities:
1. To conduct home visits to high risk victims, completing a Risk Management Plan for each victim and making referrals to appropriate Organisations to assist in Safety planning. You will undertake the liaison and vital inter-linking role between victim, appropriate agency and the OIC to assist with and provide a relevant service or appropriate support to the victim. Provide advice to victims on what their options are in relation to taking action under the criminal and civil law proceedings in order to prevent future victimisation and abuse.

2. Taking responsibility for allocated Domestic Violence Disclosure scheme requests including conducting face to face visits with ‘Right to Ask’ applicants and reviewing the available intelligence in order to make a disclosure recommendation to the Detective Inspector (MARAC representative).

4. Completing all necessary research for cases referred to the MARAC. Attending the MARAC meetings to provide support for the Detective Inspector, provide any information requested and to complete appropriate actions allocated in the meetings. undefined.

5. Take responsibility for personal safety equipment. This post holder will decide, in consultation with their supervisor, the allocation of these resources in order to support and protect the most vulnerable victims/witnesses. Maintaining a concise register to identify safety equipment deployments. Arranging for the installation and removal of the equipment, either by performing the task themselves, or using other suitably qualified SIU personnel. The post holder will, in consultation with the OIC, also decide when to withdraw the resource and inform the agency providing the cover that their service is no longer required, to ensure best value of unit resources.

6. Instigate out of Force enquiries (e.g., a transfer of MARAC or High Risk cases from another force area) This post holder is also responsible for liaising with other Forces and requesting them to make enquiries and take appropriate action where necessary.
7. Ensuring that any information he/she becomes aware of that is relevant to an investigation is disseminated to the OIC.
8. Attend multi-agency events and meetings as directed by supervision.
9. To undertake such other duties appropriate to the grade and character of work as may reasonably be required, including the specific duties of similar or lesser graded posts as directed by supervision.

Skills & Experience

1.Knowledge of MARAC and Specialist DA Services within Brighton and Hove is essential together with experience of working within a Multi-Agency Setting.
2.Critical decision making and accuracy is vital with good attention to detail.
3. Proven experience in collating and assessing information and making concise and accurate decisions.
4. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written and oral, with the ability to negotiate well.
5. Work effectively as part of a team and also able to work effectively on own initiative.
6. Able to demonstrate good organisational, planning and time management skills.
7. Previous experience of working in a security conscious environment with confidential material.
8. Training on force systems such as NICHE will be provided, however previous knowledge of force systems is desirable.
