**Job summary**:
The Honours and Information Directorate is part of the Cabinet Secretary Group within the Cabinet Office. We are looking to fill a number of case worker roles within the Directorate, in the Honours and Appointments Secretariat (HAS) and the Freedom of Information Team (FOI).

The Freedom of Information (FOI) Act is one of the pillars upon which open government operates, by providing public access to information held by public authorities. The Cabinet Office FOI team provides an essential departmental function in meeting this commitment to public access to information.

**Job description**:
**Honours and Appointments Secretariat**

The operations team has two main functions:

- The public nominations team, who receive and assess the nominations and decide how they should be processed, meaning you would be the first step to someone potentially receiving an honour before all final recommendations are made by the independent honours selection committees.

Both teams involve daily contact with other Government departments and Lord-Lieutenants.

**Main duties**:

- Dealing with telephone enquiries from members of the public, MPs and Lord-lieutenants.
- Processing public nominations for UK honours within a case management system.
- Co-ordinating and collating information from government departments and Lord-Lieutenants.
- Writing compelling citations (350-word summary of an individual’s achievements from evidence provided) for honours committees.
- Importing and checking citations from government departments.
- Regularly corresponding with government departments over their submissions.
- Preparing and producing paperwork for independent committee members, supporting members, and attending meetings.
- Assisting in contacting recipients and accurately recording replies.
- Helping prepare an accurate final list for the Prime Minister and HM The King.
- Producing statistics on the honours round from our database to support publicity and outreach work.

**Freedom of Information Team**

The Freedom of Information Casework and Complaints Team is responsible for:

- Administering Cabinet Office-wide system for processing and responding to all of the Freedom of Information requests received by the department;
- Providing advice and assistance to colleagues across the department on the proper implementation of the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000; and
- Offering support and challenge to teams in effectively responding to information requests from the public within statutory time frames and ensuring quality and consistency in responses issued on behalf of the Cabinet Office.

**Main duties**:

- Tracking, monitoring and, where appropriate, chasing live cases throughout their life cycle to support effective delivery within statutory timeframes;
- Researching and drafting responses to FOI requests retained for response within the FOI Casework Team;
- Logging of new FOI requests on the eCase case management system by the end of ‘Day 1’;
- Correctly identifying and assigning cases to the appropriate departmental policy team or internal team casework officer;
- Day-to-day maintenance and real-time updating of the virtual casework collaboration boards. This includes accurately recording where cases have been allocated, ensuring that the team is working with the most accurate information about each individual case; and
- Issuing responses to requesters through the online case management system.

**Person specification**:
**Specialist skills and requirements**

**Desirable**

It would be an advantage to have one or more of the following:

- At least 6 months administrative experience
- Experience of producing accurate information

**Behaviours**:
We'll assess you against these behaviours during the selection process:

- Managing a Quality Service
- Delivering at Pace
- Working Together
- Making Effective Decisions

**Benefits**:

- Alongside your salary of £28,700, Cabinet Office contributes £7,749 towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme. Find out what benefits a Civil Service Pension provides.- Learning and development tailored to your role.
- An environment with flexible working options.
