Strategic Lead, Place Relationships

As Strategic Lead, Place Relationships you will play a key role in supporting the development of our place-based work in tackling inequalities and increasing physical activity. You will join the organization at an exciting time, as we expand our work through a further 80 - 100 places across the next five years.

You will work collaboratively with stakeholders to provide leadership for our work with existing place partnerships. A dynamic and highly motivated individual, you will be leading the development of our new place partnerships and ensuring suitable deployment of resources to support the successful delivery of Sport England’s strategic vision, Uniting the Movement.

**Role Purpose**:

- Working collaboratively with key stakeholders to provide strategic direction and leadership for our work to increase activity levels and tackle inequalities in one or more existing place partnerships (formerly known as Local Delivery Pilots)
- Leading our development with a geographical cluster of new place partnerships working with and through Active Partnerships, Local Delivery Pilot colleagues and other key local partners/stakeholders to tackle physical inactivity and associated inequalities.
- Ensuring tactical deployment of resources and opportunities are fully maximised by being the key link between the places/partnerships you are working with and the cross organisational teams in Sport England.

**Skills & Experience**:
**Essential**
- Strong working knowledge and experience of place-based whole system approaches.
- Experience of working with and empowering local communities to develop services.
- An understanding of the issues of inequality and how they impact on people’s ability to be regularly physically active.
- Demonstrated ability to build, manage and motivate high performing teams within a matrix approach, and create a learning/improvement culture.
- Highly developed problem-solving skills showing the ability to diagnose complex problems in detail and follow through to a positive outcome.
- Proven ability to create collaborative internal and external senior level relationships including between those organisations who don’t normally work together with demonstrable outcomes.
- The proven ability to challenge, earn confidence with senior stakeholders and bring about change in complex environments.
- Excellent listening, facilitation, and communication skills, with the ability to present complex messages at a senior level in an engaging style.

**Desirable**
- Demonstrable understanding of the relevance of a place based whole system approach to tackling physical inactivity and engaging with under-represented groups.
- Extensive experience of balancing opportunity and risk, ensuring successful outcomes.
- Excellent diplomacy skills and ability to influence policy, culture and interventions working in a complex environment.
