We are recruiting for a Communications Officer on behalf of Westmorland and Furness Council to support the Lord Lietenant of Cumbria on a short term assignment for approximately 2 months.

Purpose of post;
1. To provide professional advice and support to the Lord Lieutenant of Cumbria

2. Provide a professional, responsive first point of contact to a range of high profile customers including the royal household and ministerial offices.

3. To oversee and ensure successful delivery of a wide range of corporate events and functions which maintain service standards and reputation.

4. To support the work of the Communications Team carrying out a range of duties which result in the production of high quality work and the delivery of agreed work programmes.

**Key job specific accountabilities**

1. Provide professional advice and day to day support to internal and external key figures such as the lord lieutenant and other civic officers as required and as appropriate, building and developing effective working relationships.

2. Be the first point of contact and key liaison officer with establishments such as the royal households and government offices.

3. To enforce and advise on all relevant protocols and procedures (corporate ID, events and civic visits).

4. With particular responsibility for event management, provide high quality and professional advice on all key events and corporate functions, and make recommendations for improvements via event evaluations.

5. Support the broader work of the communications team by developing high quality communication materials use of a range of communications channels such as video, articles, news releases, campaigns, newsletters, web pages, web surveys, blogs, Facebook, Twitter and other agreed products.

6. To undertake other duties as may be determined within the general scope of the post and commensurate with the grade.

Post specific experience required
- NVQ 3 or 4 or equivalent, or equivalent experience within the relevant work area.
- Experience dealing with high profile clients and key partners such as the police
- Ability to deal with highly confidential and sensitive information in a respectful way at all times
- Political acumen and excellent judgment
- Ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of people and organisations
- Public relations, communications or marketing knowledge and expertise
- High standard of writing
- Ability to be creative
- An ability to work flexibly and under pressure
- Ability to effectively manage competing priorities and deadlines
- An ability to assimilate large amounts of complex information, make sense of it and advise on communication methods and reputation management implications
- A strong grasp of the challenges facing local government and the public sector
- Strong attention to detail both working alone and as part of team
- Ability to operate Microsoft Word and PowerPoint programmes and desk top publishing programmes effectively

The role will be mainly remote however some days in the office will be required. Hours of work are Monday to Friday 9-5, however there is flexibility on start and finish times.
