Sainsbury’s Property division is responsible for all Sainsbury’s trading and non-trading property assets, including supermarkets, convenience stores, and offices, industrial and retail depots. It all adds up to give us responsibility for the 4th largest retail estate by number of shops (Over 2,100, and still growing) and the 2nd largest by floor area.

It’s one of the most exciting times of retail industry change and as one of our Heads of Construction, reporting into the Construction Director, you’ll play a key role in the property senior leadership team. This unique role will give you an opportunity to lead a team of experienced Project Managers, delivering our market leading Property Investment Programme, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time at best commercial value and to a great quality for our customers and colleagues.

**More about the role**:

- Accountable for the delivery of Property investments in line with our programme and stakeholders to time, cost and quality parameters, compliant to all legal, statutory and local authority requirements.
- Work to create and resource cross functional teams including third party resource capable of delivering high quality investments and excellent delivery standards
- Accountable for teams compliance to the Property commercial processes
- Provide behavioural project management coaching on all aspects of delivery, working with consultants, internal colleagues and the end user to provide the highest value delivery team
- To act as programme specific communicator (within the delivery remit), reporting programme progress ensuring key stakeholders at all levels are consulted and engaged
- Assess risk throughout the investment process and make balanced recommendations on capital expenditure, procurement, construction, consents and agreements
- Achieve excellence in programme/project management by benchmarking and achieving industry best practice
- Accountable for adherence for construction and delivery health ,safety and wellbeing requirements
- Responsible for supporting our Procurement Strategy through advice on programme, construction methodologies and project risks
- To lead on innovation with regards to commercial and programme opportunities

**More about you**:

- Excellent understanding of how construction projects are delivered through the programme stages, using expertise to develop relationships, creating new solutions and best practice.
- Up to date knowledge of Construction related legislation that impacts the delivery of New and Existing Space projects and the ability to risk manage through the process
- Excellent influencing, co-ordinating and motivation of own and virtual teams and stakeholder management and conflict resolution
- Expertise in commercial management - particularly budget and variance reporting
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including an ability to relay complex technical concepts or matters to non-technical audiences clearly.
- Strong creative thinking and problem solving skills
- Experience of working with multiple outsourced services providers
- Leadership skills with ability to develop direct reports through coaching and planned development activities, ensuring continual improvement.
