**Opportunity Overview**

The post holder of Head of Capital Projects will have responsibility for managing a customer focused team of construction project managers who are directly employed by the University and some who are seconded from external consultancy firms delivering minor works, medium and major capital projects of the University’s Masterplan.

This role requires technical knowledge, skills and experience of the construction industry including construction contract management. This role also requires people’s management, effective management and more importantly leadership skills and experience. Knowledge and experience of working within a large organisation ideally within the Higher Education settings are highly desirable. Knowledge of public sector procurement is also desirable and welcomed.

To succeed in this role, you will be a strong leader with a track record of successfully managing a team of in-house or client project managers, with the ability to influence at all levels and strong presentation skills alongside excellent written and verbal communication skills. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team determined to implement and deliver the University’s exciting remaining phases of Masterplan following a successful delivery of its first phase.

**Key Responsibilities**
- A key part of the role is to provide professional technical advice as a Chartered Construction Professional to support the development and implementation of the Estates Strategy including the University’s Masterplan and its capital projects.
- The post holder is required to provide leadership and coaching to the Projects Team, ensuring it has wide access to University and industry forums/context in order to support demand challenge, continuous improvement, innovation and best practice.
- The Projects Team has a crucial role to play in delivering change by supporting the strategic and project management office with technical / operational issues, delivering projects, commissioning new buildings through to de-commissioning the Estate and ensuring that the Estate is operated in accordance with the Estate Strategy.
- The post holder must have a thorough understanding of the management needs of the physical Estate to ensure a safer, legally compliant environment with spend prioritised based on both available financial and staff resources.

Utilising the resources of some 300 directly employed staff, supported by external contractors, Estates & Facilities is responsible for delivering a full estates and facilities management service to the University, including capital development, property maintenance, cleaning, security, caretaking, landscaping and conferencing.
