Mental Health Befriender Required for 6 Month

We run a successful befriending service, providing bespoke support to young people under 18 to lead happy and independent lives.**

**What is a befriender?**

Being a befriender involves spending 1:1 time with a young person to develop their self esteem and independence skills.. As well as joining them with their hobbies and interests, this might include spending time together at home, going to a club or group together or perusing a hobby out in the community.

Becoming a befriender is a rewarding role. It will aid the young person to increase their confidence in order to become the person who they want to be and ease the sense of loneliness that these people may be feeling.

**W**e are currently looking for a befriender to work with someone with significant mental health needs. This is a 6 month intervention programme which will allow the young person to have a positive outlet on a weekly basis. The role will involve going out for coffee or to do an activity whilst also giving the young person opportunity to talk about any struggles she is having and find positive ways to understand and express her emotions.

Experience of eating disorders would be an advantage for this role.

Essential
- Experience of working with young people
- Willing to learn from the young person and their family
- Be friendly and reliable
- Maintain confidentiality
- Be respectful in the family home
- Be creative in your personal approach
- Have a genuine desire to enhance the young person’s life and boost their self confidence in social situations
- Experience of supporting someone with mental health struggles

Desirable
- An understanding and experience of the nature of this type of support work
- Experience of eating disorders
- Experience of working with teenagers

Hours

10 hours p/w

Hours can be flexible but will often working around school times and so may be afternoons/ evenings and/ or at the weekend.

Contract length: 6 months

Pay: £12.00 per hour

Expected hours: 10 per week
