Head of Payroll and Pensions

I am working with a NHS organisation based in Guildford, Surrey, who are looking for an experienced **Head of Payroll & Pensions** for 6 months initially.

Based on site 5 days a week initially (then potential for hybrid) the role is full time, to start ASAP and paying £26.42 PAYE + holiday pay per hour (£29.61). The role is in scope of IR35 and PAYE only.

**JOB PURPOSE**
- Take responsibility for the operational and staff management of the Payroll Team, handling the changes for 5100 monthly paid staff. Work with the Deputy Director of HR to develop the Payroll Team to provide a high quality, comprehensive and cost effective administration service for the Trust. Ensure procedures and controls are in place to enable provision of an accurate payroll service that meets the required deadlines.
- Organise and prioritise own workload ensuring strict deadlines are adhered to, be responsible for a section of monthly payroll records and process these on a day to day basis and ensure the timely and accurate payment of salaries.

**ESSENTIAL CRITERIA**
- Have excellent communication skills by any media and be of a level to overcome barriers of understanding.
- Demonstrate self motivation and commitment, have a strong sense of quality and be able to lead by example.
- Be able to understand the issues and needs of others.
- Be flexible and able to approach difficult situations with appropriate style.
- Have a flexible approach with regard to working times as commitment to the job will entail working outside of normal hours.
- Train and motivate staff to achieve their best
- Experience of and proven skills in the initiation and management of process change in a controlled environment.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- EDCL qualified (European Computer Driving Licence) or equivalent.

**ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE**
- Minimum of 10 years payroll and pension experience plus a minimum of 3 years payroll management or deputy level, working in a complex environment which equates to a BTEC/HND qualification.
- Previous experience of implementing and maintaining an integrated payroll/HR system.
- Extensive, expert knowledge of Tax, National Insurance and all statutory payroll payments and deductions.
