**About Borde Hill Garden**

Borde Hill (BH) is a registered charity and a Grade II* listed English Heritage Garden set within 380 acres of parkland and woodland in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Created in the early 1900’s with plants gathered by the great plant hunters from their travels to the Himalayas, China, Burma, Tasmania and the Andes, it contains 78 champion trees and over 8,000 trees and shrubs listed by the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew.

Borde Hill features one of the best private collections of champion trees in Britain and one of the most comprehensive collections of trees and shrubs in the world. In addition to the living collection, the Garden also has a rare surviving written archive which allows us to better understand the plant collection and social history to engage our visitors about “the world in one garden.”

The Garden today offers a high level of visitor interest and has become extremely popular, with 70,000 visitors each season, offering the wellbeing benefits of being in the open air, immersed in the beauty of nature.

The Stephenson Clarke family have been custodians of Borde Hill for five generations, and are at a stage of generational change that will see investment, new energy, opportunities and ideas aimed at broadening our visitor demographic and ensuring Borde Hill is sustainable for future generations. This will include new pillars of field to fork dining, a biodynamic growers project and a rejuvenated family parkland offering with improved infrastructure, better horticultural interpretation and plant management.

We have a small, friendly, hard-working team and it is crucial that you are happy to work on your own initiative, but also collaboratively, stepping outside of your own role to help others as needed.

**You and Your Role**

We are looking for an experienced finance assistant to process invoices and payments, assist with bank reconciliations and maintain the direct debit system, supporting the part-time finance team. You must be highly organised and numerate, with strong attention to detail. Main duties will include:

- Processing sales invoices and receipts, and purchase invoices and payments
- Responsibility for processing all purchase invoices and rental demand invoices, and keeping the supporting schedule up to date (according to the information shared by Savills) for the Estate
- Checking and reconciling company bank statements and credit cards
- Processing membership direct debit requests and renewals
- Data entry and reporting using Microsoft Excel
- Updating and maintaining supplier and customer information
- Monthly processes and reporting for Isle of Wight, Shoot, Borde Hill Energy, Nunn Harvey Clark Trust and other house accounts with support from the Finance Manager or Accountant
- Provide cover for payroll as required (full training will be given)
- Provide cover and any other ad hoc activities to support the wider team, including cost saving initiatives.

**Knowledge, skills and experience needed**

- 2 years+ bookkeeping experience, AAT an advantage
- Highly organised and used to juggling workloads
- Methodical and highly accurate
- Proactive, showing initiative and able to pick up new tasks and systems easily
- Good problem-solving skills
- Excellent Excel skills
- Knowledge of Xero and Merac EPOS systems an advantage
- Good communication skills
- Good at building effective relationships with colleagues and customers
- Strong commercial awareness
- Comply with the Garden’s procedures, including Financial, H&S, Equality and Diversity

**Salary**:
£11-13 per hour

**Hours**:
Part-time, working 21 hours per week over 3 days, ideally Mon/Wed/Fri

**Holiday entitlement**:
28 days inclusive of Bank Holidays (pro-rata)
