During the duration of the contract in this department doctors are expected to become competent at organising the day-to-day duties of the clinical areas.

The post-holder will be expected to work closely with appropriate nursing, professional, technical, and administrative and support staff.

The post-holder will be responsible for ensuring adequate clinical notes are made in accordance with good medical practice.

The post-holder may, on occasions, be asked to assist in the teaching of medical students.

There has never been a more exciting time to join West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Major redevelopment works are planned as part of the New Hospital Programme. These will be most dramatic at Watford General Hospital where up to 90% of buildings will be new.

The trust has recently gained ‘teaching hospital’ status which reflects the dedicated work of many teams and individuals who have set the standard for delivering high quality training, learning and education at all levels of the workforce.

At West Herts we recognise the importance of a good work life balance and the ability to work flexibly. We are delighted to offer a variety of flexible working options for all staff. Please check out our web page for more information.

We encourage and welcome people with disabilities. If you need help, please ask.

Junior doctors are required to perform duties over and above their contracted hours in occasional emergencies and in unforeseen circumstances, at the request of the Clinical Director of the service.

It has been agreed with the profession and the Department of Health that these additional commitments are exceptional, and juniors should not be required to undertake work of this kind for a prolonged period or on a regular basis.

There will be provision for junior doctors to join the on-call rota and contribute towards the GIM on call system for a supplemental increase in pay. This can be discussed further at interview.
