**THE ROLE**

We’re hiring for an experienced Technical Officer (Disabled Facility Grants) to join our Service Delivery Team in Property Services. Working within the Lichfield District, you’ll be primarily responsible for providing design and technical expertise and overseeing building works. Responsible for ensuring high quality and good value for money in the delivery of disabled adaptations.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- To survey and assess the homes of customers to determine their suitability for adaptation considering recommendations by occupational therapists, other health professionals and the customers own requirements.
- To design disabled adaptations, including producing options appraisals for more complex adaptations.
- Provide detailed advice and recommendations for proposed works ensuring that they meet legislative requirements, national guidance, and the Council’s financial assistance policies.
- To prepare scheme designs, schedules of work, specifications and tender documents for adaptations works.
- Responsible for ensuring that construction, adaptation, and demolition schemes comply with all relevant planning and environmental legislation, building regulations, party wall procedures and the requirements of public utility companies.
- To carry out inspections after works are completed to ensure that they have been completed in accordance with the approved plans and specification, deal with any snagging items and ensure they are resolved satisfactorily by contractors and process invoices for payment.
- To be responsible for your own case work and prioritising your workload to ensure that projects progress in accordance with agreed project plans and customer’ expectations.
- To effectively manage a large caseload, often at different stages of the adaptations process.
- Be capable of a timely turnaround of caseload in accordance with service requirements.

**SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE**
- Experience of drawing up detailed schedules and specifications for building works.
- Experience of administering building contracts.
- Knowledge of the Building Regulations, planning requirements, codes of practice, British standards, and other requirements relevant to the work.
- Knowledge of the Construction (design and management) Regulations 2015.
- A good knowledge of other relevant health and safety legislation and related regulations, codes of practice, the correct use of tools and safe systems of work.

**SKILLS AND BEHAVIOURS**
- A good understanding of, and sensitivity towards, the needs and experience of disabled and vulnerable customers.
- Good written and verbal communication skills sufficient to communicate with health professionals, building contractors and vulnerable customers.
- To be proactive and work co-operatively enabling the service to work with maximum efficiency.
- Ability to empathise with vulnerable customers and to advocate on their behalf, ensuring services are focussed on client needs and aspirations.
- The ability to use Microsoft Office software including Microsoft Word, Visio, and Outlook.
- Must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a car for work purposes and be able to carry small pieces of equipment.
