Yard Assistant

English Brothers is a family owned Timber Merchant and Manufacturer of Timber Buildings and Goods.

Established for over 100 years, we are looking for a "people person" to join our Retail Team. Working as part of the team to deliver excellent customer service, exceeding customer expectations and contributing to the continual growth of the company.

This is an outdoor, yard based role. A valid driving license is required and a forklift or side loader license would be advantageous. Manual lifting is required often during the working day.

**Responsibilities and Activities**
- Assist customers in person.
- Accurately pick customer’s orders.
- Loading of customer’s orders on to company vehicles for delivery manually or using front or side forks.
- Assist customers with loading goods into their own vehicles. In a safe and professional manner.
- Respond to enquiries or relay the enquiry to the appropriate person.
- Advise customers on products and services.
- Inform appropriate person if stock is low.
- Stock taking.
- Accurate machining/cutting of customer’s orders.
- Banksman duties.

**Ensuring the yard standards are maintained to the highest standard possible. For display purposes, ensuring customer ease of access. Ensuring the health and safety of customers, tradesmen and employees**:

- Move supplies from the treatment plant or incoming deliveries to the correct storage areas in a safe and timely manner.
- Stack timber/products in a safe and tidy manner.
- Keep walkways and roadways clean and clear of debris or hazards.
- Report hazards or breach of health and safety to the appropriate person.
- Remove hazards when appropriate.

**Supporting staff**
- Liaise and assist company delivery drivers.
- Liaise and assist drivers making deliveries to EB Ltd.
- Provide correct, legible (picking tickets) information to the shop.
- Aid manufacturing staff when required.
- Perform other related duties as required.

**Hours**
- Monday to Friday 7.30am to 5.00pm. This includes 39 hours flat rate. Contractural 6 hours at 1.5 x flat rate. Two 15 minute breaks, paid. Half hour lunch break, unpaid.
- Saturday 7.30am to 12.00 Noon. 4.5 hours on a rota basis. Paid at 2 x flat rate.

**Salary**: From £10.42 per hour

Schedule:

- Monday to Friday
- Overtime
- Weekend availability

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Wisbech, PE14 7DU: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

- Driving Licence (required)
- Side loader (preferred)
- Forklift (required)
