An opportunity has arisen for an experienced project manager to become part of the maternity governance team leading on the Ockenden action plan and CNST Maternity Incentive scheme.

The Maternity safety Strategy sets out the Department of Health and Social Care ambition to reward those Trusts who have taken action to improve maternity safety. NHS Resolution supports this work through the maternity Incentive scheme (MIS), which incentivises ten maternity safety actions across a range of areas.

The post holders’ primary responsibility will be to overseen the effective delivery of the Maternity incentive Scheme and Ockenden response and action plan

- Support and provide guidance to all staff within maternity services in relation to patient safety and clinical governance and contribute to, and monitor effectiveness of, the maternity clinical risk management strategy.
- To attend the Trust complaints, litigation, incident meetings
- Working with the Clinical Director, Associate Director of Midwifery, Women's and Children's Risk and Governance manager, Obstetric Audit Lead and TrustCorporate Governance team/Trust Compliance lead to ensure audit projects are prioritised and undertaken in a timely manner.
- The post holder will have responsibility for co-ordinating and participation in audit projects relating to the NHSR Maternity Standards and the Ockenden report recommendations/IEAs.
- Lead work streams that directly feed into compliance with the MIS Maternity safety actions/Ockenden such as ATAIN.
- Work with the lead clinicians for clinical risk within maternity, Professional Midwifery Advocates, Midwifery matrons, Medical and Midwifery staff to identify clinical risk issues and implement changes in practice. Provide feedback on incidents and progress the implementation of recommendations from multidisciplinary meetings.
- Promote and maintain cohesive working relationships with obstetricians, neonatal team (medical and nursing) anaesthetists and other specialists.
- Work autonomously within guidelines and spheres of professional practice. Support the implementation of recommendations from Government and professional bodies in relation to maternity care.
- Work closely with the Maternity governance team to plan, implement and develop CNST and Ockenden recommendations
- Communicate patient information, including clinical findings and treatment/action plans, to appropriate clinicians, including primary care.
- Network with local and national groups, appropriate to the clinical field, to share knowledge and best practice, disseminating with local colleagues as appropriate.
- Communicate complex and sensitive information to patients, ensuring their understanding, using interpreters when required
- Encourage and motivate patients to self-manage their condition and comply with proposed treatment.
- Participate in the Trust appraisal process each year, with the first appraisal taking place within the first 6 months from appointment
- Ensure communication channels are used appropriately and effectively to facilitate the flow of information throughout the Division.
- Represent the Directorate on specific committees/working parties as requested.
- Keep accurate and complete records of all activities and communication consistent with legislation, policies and procedures
