StokeonTrent, United Kingdom University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust Full time

An exciting development opportunity has become available for a highly motivated and experienced nurse or midwife to work with the Workforce, Training and Education Department NHS England Midlands Region for 12 months secondment as a Clinical Leadership Fellow. The Fellowship will be hosted by the Centre for Nursing, Midwifery and AHP Research and Education Excellence (CeNREE) at UHNM.

The Clinical Leadership Fellow role provides a unique opportunity for a highly motivated nurse or midwife to develop new professional leadership and project management skills, working across the Midlands region with direct Mentorship from NHS England Midlands. The fellowship will create the chance for increasing knowledge of strategic thinking and innovation and will enable the fellow to gain a broader understanding of the NHS and Arm’s Length Bodies.

Fellows will be part of a network of inter-professional leadership fellows and be able to present their work at educational and other healthcare forums.

University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust is one of the largest and most modern in the country. Based across two sites, Royal Stoke in Stoke-on-Trent and County Hospital in Stafford, we are proud to serve around three million people and we're highly regarded for our facilities, teaching and research. We are the specialist centre for major trauma for the North Midlands and North Wales.

All of our employees make a valuable contribution regardless of role here at UHNM and we are proud of our wide range of development packages aimed at ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to fulfil their true potential.

UHNM create and encourage a culture of inclusion, providing equal opportunities for career development that are fair and transparent. We are committed to being a diverse and inclusive employer and foster a culture in which all staff feel valued and respected. In return we ask all of our employees to make a commitment to the values, co-created by or staff, patients and carers, and that unite us as a Trust.

At University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust we know that investing in, supporting and developing our staff has a direct impact on the quality of care that we deliver. Our employees are as important as our patients and the population that we serve.

The Three-Year Delivery Plan for Maternity and Neonatal services (2023) set out how the NHS will make maternity and neonatal care safer, more personalised, and more equitable for women, babies, and families. The plan is informed by the best available evidence, including the Quality Maternal and Newborn Care Framework which underpins the NMC midwifery standards. The plan sets out three areas of action for maternity and neonatal staffing: continuing to grow our workforce; valuing and retaining our workforce; and investing in skills. This is further supported by the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan (2023) which sets out a need to grow workforce, educate and train, in line with the conclusions of the Ockenden review (Ockenden, 2022).

This fellowship will bring an appropriately trained Nurse or Midwife into the clinical leadership team to ensure the Midlands are not only supporting the regional implementation of the Three Year Delivery Plan for Maternity and Neonatal services and the NHS England Long Term Workforce Plan, but to also utilise their clinical experience, working with other organisations in the region for a multi-disciplinary approach to support services in the Midlands area, whilst sharing and disseminating learning across all regions.
