Together with our partners, we support over 16,000 young people each year.
Owlet Grange, a 9-bed hostel in Shipley, is set to undergo a refurbishment, and we're seeking a dedicated Support Housing Officer (SHO) to play a pivotal role in shaping a safe, welcoming, and high-quality environment for our Young People. The SHO will actively participate in the transformation of the outdoor spaces, creating a garden and BBQ area. With young residents staying approximately 6-12 months, the SHO will employ a holistic and trauma-informed approach to provide targeted support, working closely with individualised action plans. This includes fostering household management skills, financial literacy, and communal living. The SHO will also spearhead community-building initiatives, organising engaging activities within the hostel and collaborating with the wider Centrepoint teams.
**About you**
- Effective communicator with natural ability to facilitate open and honest conversations.
- Able decision maker with a can do attitude.
- Respectful and empathetic, always considering the impact on our young people.
- Flexible, always adapting to changing needs.
- Engaging, committed to self-development by engaging with training and continuous learning.
- Proactive, always looking for creative ways of working.
**What you’ll be doing**
- Coordinate support from both Centrepoint and external agencies for 9 young residents in the hostel.
- Develop and regularly review individualised action plans for each resident, guiding key working sessions and interventions.
- Assist residents in finding suitable move-on accommodation through various sources.
- Manage rent accounts, including service charge collection and housing benefit claims.
- Ensure the hostel is clean, safe, and welcoming for new residents, providing thorough induction.
- Collaborate with the housing officer to maintain building compliance.
- Coordinate timely repairs in collaboration with the housing officer and maintenance team.
- Encourage resident involvement in the community, facilitate attendance at meetings, and seek regular feedback.
- Utilize Lifewise modules to enhance residents' independent living skills.
- Maintain a peaceful hostel environment and address any incidents promptly.
- Prioritise safeguarding, ensuring comprehensive risk assessments for all residents and swift action on concerns.
- Record all interactions with or concerning residents in compliance with GDPR.
- Liaise with partner organisations such as social workers, mental health teams, and education/training providers.
- Actively participate in the refurbishment and planned improvements to Owlet Grange.
- Collaborate with internal and external education/training providers to support residents in engaging in opportunities.
**Why join Centrepoint?**
In return for your efforts you’ll receive a competitive salary, excellent training and development, and a host of staff benefits including:
- 25 days of annual leave per year, rising by one day per year to a maximum of 27 days
- Healthcare cash plan (Cover the costs of a wide range of medical treatment including Dental, Optical, Complementary and Alternative therapies).
- Private Medical insurance
- Income protection
- Employer pension contributions of 5%
- Clear career progressions, linked to portfolio work, that enables movement up the pay scale
- Access to Cycle 2 Work loan scheme
- An interest-free travel loan
- At Centrepoint we challenge the discrimination within society that contributes to youth homelessness, and we are just as committed to fairness and equality within Centrepoint itself. We are passionate about ensuring all of our colleagues are made to feel included in the work we do and that we value the rich diversity within the organization._
- Centrepoint’s policy is to recruit, employ and promote people on the basis of their suitability for the work to be performed, and to this end, our aim is to ensure that all applicants, employees and volunteers receive equal treatment._
