An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Highly Specialist Dietician to join the Adult Mental Inpatient services on fixed term 12 month contract.

You will provide oversight on the nutritional needs of our inpatients and will be involved in the development of dietetic services within the Trust alongside colleagues.

The post holder will work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team; providing a specialist Dietetic assessment, intervention and advice service to our inpatients with unmet nutritional needs, their families, support staff and professionals.

The service includes individually tailored therapy and management, training, advice and a consultative approach. Input is predominantly on a one on one basis, but consultation and training may be provided to train staff as required. In addition to direct client management the role requires input at a strategic level and day to-day management of the Inpatient Service Dietetic Patients Referrals.

- To be autonomous and responsible for the assessment, formulation and management of a specialist clinical caseload ensuring practice is in line with The Health Professional Councils (HCPC) Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics, The HCPC Standards of Proficiency - Dietitians and the British Dietetic Association’s Code of Professional Conduct.
- To coordinate Dietetic Services across geographical locations, settings or specialism.
- To promote the importance of diet in relation to physical and psychological health.
- To support the implementation of key documents relating to nutrition, for example NICE guidance.
- To identify and highlight training, resource and development needs.
- To represent the AMH Inpatient Dietetic Service at agreed forums.
- To independently provide a specialist Dietetic assessment, intervention and advice service to clients with unmet nutritional needs, their families, support staff and professionals.
- To develop and provide a highly specialist packages of care to individuals
- To work as an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team across a variety of agencies and locations.
- To be responsible for the mentoring, supervision and management of junior Dietitian’s and Dietetic Assistants.
- To have a delegated responsibility for a specific specialism, providing highly specialist advice and support and second opinions for people with additional needs or in specific contexts (Mental Health Act).
- To implement department guidelines and procedures in line with Regional and National initiatives that influence service provision.
- To participate in multi
- disciplinary projects and specialist areas of Dietetic work as agreed with the directorate.
- To contribute to department procedures and protocols.
- To maintain clinical and administrative records in accordance with team, trust, British Dietetic Association and Health Care Professionals Council standards and provide clinical data to managers as required
- To work within agreed Trust Health and Safety Policies and Procedures
- To proactively contribute to regional and national Specialist Interest groups.
- To maintain a highly specialised knowledge base with particular expertise in the areas of eating disorders, Mental Health and Nasogastric feeding and be responsible for ensuring good practice across the Dietetic service.
- To contribute to the clinical governance activities of the Dietetic Department
- To demonstrate own continuing Professional development including specialist area
- To undertake research and/or audit in accordance with the needs of the trust and the profession
- To contribute to growing body of local and national evidence through writing and presenting papers as appropriate
